Responsibilities

Provides general administration and support for NISA’s SQL Servers in the Development, Test, Staging and Production Environment. Participates in weekly on-call rotation and occasional night and weekend off-hour projects that cannot be done during normal business hours. Provides mentorship to the application development team, teaching T-SQL best practices. The successful candidate will work as a member our DBA team to provide support for database architecture, design, installation and configuration of SQL Server 2008R2 through 2016 instances:

 

  • Assist in maintenance of SQL Server instances in virtualized environment
  • Support development staff for Query debugging and T-SQL Tuning
  • Maintain audit, error and system maintenance logs
  • Join in rotating overnight and weekend on-call activities
  • Replication monitoring and break/fix remediation as needed
  • Monitor workload performance and environmental security, making recommendations to improve as identified
  • Assist in change deployment
  • Debug performance problems as they arise
  • Assist in major projects
  • Assist in the installation and configuration of new SQL Servers
  • Assist in maintenance of NISA’s backup strategies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, related field or comparable experience
  • Understanding of basic database principles such as indexing, table structure, data types, security and normalization
  • Minimum one year applicable experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Familiarity with SSIS, SSRS and/or SSAS a plus
  • Familiarity with SQL Server monitoring tools a plus
  • Capable of working independently in a self-guided work schedule to meet team requirements.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Enjoy giving others the tools to develop better queries and design methodologies
  • Passion for SQL Server technologies (and non-SQL technologies) - driven to learn new skills and push current skills forward to drive process innovation and efficiency.
